Solar Retinopathy


 

Solar retinopathy, or photic retinopathy, is damage to your eye, particularly to your retina and macula, caused by prolonged exposure to solar radiation or other bright lasers. It usually occurs from staring at the sun for an extended period of time, exposure to ultraviolet or bright light, or viewing a solar eclipse. Even a short duration of exposure can cause retinal damage so please be aware of the signs of Solar Retinopathy.

Signs & Symptoms of Solar Retinopathy: 

  • Blurred Vision
  • Central or paracentral scotoma
  • Abnormally colored vision
  • Discomfort or pain from normal light exposure
  • Headache
