Alan Wagner M.D. F.A.C.S.

Dr. Alan Wagner founded the Retina and Vitreous Center, now Wagner Macula and Retina Center, in 1987.  A board certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery, Dr. Wagner received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He did his residency in Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed training as a fellow in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at the Cornell University Medical School.

Dr. Wagner is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at EVMS and the Medical College of Virginia and serves as a research consultant at the Strelitz Diabetes Institute.  He is on the medical staff at several area hospitals including Sentara Norfolk General, Sentara Virginia Beach General, Sentara Careplex in Hampton, Depaul Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters, Riverside Regional Medical Center, Portsmouth Naval, BonSecours ASC Surgical Center and The Surgery Center of Chesapeake ASC.

Dr. Wagner has researched, published and lectured at national meetings on numerous topics in ophthalmology including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, endophthalmitis and retinopathy of prematurity.  He has also been a principal investigator in several national clinical trials.
